Just when you thought that things got a little better, they get a little worst.
It's been one of those crazy semesters where work just piles up over and over and doesn't seem to stop. Just when you thought things were gonna get a little better. They get a little worst.
1 Midterm ends and then comes 4 other project deadlines that come at you together. I was talking to one of the Youth the other day and I realized this busyness is truely a distinctiveness of our generation. Gone were the days when you could just stare at the night sky all night and do absolutely nothing but stare. Or spend 2 hours after school on home work everyday and that would make you a mugger already.
As we grow older our lives become dotted with so many commitments from all over tha place. "Busy" becomes a a normal state of affairs. But aren't we always gonna be busy. Work just never ends and that's the problem. I'm inclined to believe we will be fighting this ultimate balance our entire lives. For if it's not school work versus family time versus church commitments then maybe it work versus something else.
Then this becomes a matter of choice isn't it?
With choice comes the decision. And decision means priorities. So truely the question is what is important in our lives. Is the grades that we achieve? The money that we make? The popularity that we attain? Or the power and influence we accumulate?
I'm was lead at one point in my life to go to the Book of Micah 6:8. In it the Lord reveals a profound truth to what should truely be the priority in our lives it says,
"He has showed you, O man what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly, to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
At a point of my life I sought to pursue academic excellence above all things. This I felt was resonable. Yet the Lord choose this verse to speak rebuke me. That the desires of His heart is not what we can do. But our devotion unto our Creator.
To do the righteous things that to Him is right. To live holy and upright lives that display Him and not our sinful desires. Yet above all this to "walk humbly with" Him.
Not ambition. Not expectation. Not goals. Not even numbers. But only a relationship. A close walk with Him. To be like Enoch whose greatest deed was walking with God. And that was a mark of his greatness.
"Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Genesis 5:24
So the mark of greatness and excellence at it's core was the walk. His God-fearing and Holy "walk" with God.
