It's New Year Again

Sorry for the leave of absence. As usual work has piled up again. I'm glad that I'm taking only 2 modules. But these 2 modules are not slack at all. So it all balances out in the end. At any rate, it mid term break and everyone's still in this "Happy New Year" mode in school. Wasn't it just a 2 months ago that we went through that?

I was thinking the after a run I had on Monday that passage of time always bears with it some significance. Some more significant than others. For example, the passing of years, decades and centuaries as well as the passing of birthdays and anniversaries. Chinese New Year seems to get more dull every year. Perhaps it because I'm growing older and so are my relatives. The excitement of visitations and getting ang pows no longer intrigue me as much. Though it was interesting to see my 3-4 year old niece and nephew (from my cousin) speak with a clear "ang mo" accent after they were sent to an international school in Hong Kong. (my cousin works there) But other than that everything seemed pretty low key.

I've come to the conclusion that such celebrations are only meaningful and exciting in as much as you and the people around you want it to be. For me the most exciting and meaningful part of the celebrations was when Hwa Chong JC's class of 99S62 had a reunion dinner Asian Kitchen Restaurant last thursday. Even Kuanz and Jianz were back. As we talked we realised that by May all of us would have graduated stepped out into the corporate world and making our mark in society; perhaps much to the suprise of our tutors in Hwa Chong.

A scene comes to mind. That is of a driver along the highway. Like the driver we look back over our shoulders at the end of each year to notice the landmark events that has transpired. And ponder how far more we have to travel or how far ahead we have gone in this highway of life. And for better or worst our present state is made of our past deeds and misdeeds; past success and failures and past joys and anguish.

No conclusion here. Just some thoughts...
